Ayurvedic Pinda SwedanaDuring this treatment, the client receives a massage with a hot blend of rice cooked in milk and medicinal herbs. Depending on the treatment, the concoction is either applied straight to the skin (also called Lepana) or tied up in a cloth to form a bolus. The heat of the mixture causes a deep perspiration (swedana) which cleanses the body of unwanted toxins, while making room for the absorption of the beneficial ingredients from the bolus. This is Ayurveda's most nourishing and rejuvenative external therapy. Pinda Swedana is traditionally performed with two therapists but can easily be achieved with one.
